Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic/Motor Vehicle Operator)

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury, illness, or potential environmental risks. | Assesses condition of patient(s) and selects from a variety of protocols one or several that are deemed appropriate under the given circumstances and based on the paramedics’ evaluation. | Triages patients to determine which patients are treated and transported first and makes notifications to inform the appropriate medical facility ER of a possible Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). | Recognizes, stabilizes, and treats a wide variety of medical emergencies, (i.e., heart attacks, state of hydration, strokes, environmental [heat exhaustion, heat stroke, etc.], burns [thermal, radiation, and electrical], suicidal patients, etc.) | Maintains Emergency Vehicles (EV) readiness and inspects vehicles for repairs. | Operates EV safely and adheres to traffic ordinances and regulations pertaining to the operation of the EV.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) operating a patient transport vehicle; (3) AND providing advanced life support to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. | Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. | Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. | A Personnel Security Investigation is required | This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis. | This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. | Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. | All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). | Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. | A pre-placement medical examination is required. | This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. | Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. | Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays. | The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off. May be required to assume essential personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies. | Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing. | This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle and maintain a valid state driver's license.
