Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center with the Directorate of Clinical Support within the Nuclear Medicine Division in San Diego, California.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Perform full spectrum of nuclear medicine procedures for a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to geriatrics. | Perform tests and examinations using radionuclides, radiation detectors, scanning apparatus, and related equipment in medical laboratories and clinics. | Responsible for the end-to-end management of radiopharmaceuticals, from procurement and preparation to patient administration. | Employ aseptic techniques to prepare and manipulate sterile radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications. | Manage the use of personnel monitoring devices, monitor exposure reports to ensure all staff remain within the annual regulatory limit. | Perform imaging procedures, utilizing modern methodologies and accurately acquiring and processing data to optimize the studies for the physician's interpretation. | Facilitate the administration of advanced radioligand therapies for neuroendocrine tumors and metastatic prostate cancer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nuclear Medicine Technician:

Licensure/Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field.

AND

Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience 1) performing nuclear medicine studies or examinations; 2) providing technical support to physicians or other professional nuclear medicine personnel in the diagnosis, care, or treatment of patients; and 3) the therapeutic application of radiopharmaceuticals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. | This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. | Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. | This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination unless exempted by appropriate medical professional for medical or religious reasons. | Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. | The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter. | This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. | This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. | This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. | This position requires incumbent to wear Personnel Protective Equipment. | This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS), and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training certification from, or in accordance with the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. | Incumbent must possess a Nuclear Medicine Technician (CNMT) certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technician Certification Board (NMTCB).
