Duties
Anesthesia and Pain Management Service Core Privileges comprise the types of clinical activity normally performed by an Anesthesiologist and/or Pain Management Specialist as supported and evidenced by state licensure, completion of an approved residency, board eligibility or certification in an appropriate field, and review of all pertinent individual data by the VANTHCS Chief of Anesthesia and Pain Management Service. Privileges listed under "core" paragraphs are a representative sample of the types of clinical activities and procedures that can be performed under that level of training and is not an inclusive list.
Approved privileges for Anesthesia and Pain Management Service Physicians include performance at the Dallas VA Medical Center Operating Room Suites, all Intensive Care Units, Pre-Operative area, and the Pain Clinic, inpatient and outpatient treatment areas, telemedicine for staff trained in the use of the telemedicine modality, and receiving, reviewing, and acting upon consults and E-consults.
Anesthesia General Core Privileges include: history & physical including preoperative evaluation, preparing treatment plans, administration of parenteral fluids, medications, & blood products, application of specific methods of respiratory therapy, application of restraints, arterial blood gas sampling, bronchoscopy, clinical management of the patient unconscious from whatever cause, clinical management of various fluid electrolyte & metabolic disturbances, ECG interpretation, endotracheal intubation, cultures, femoral puncture, interpretation of pulmonary function tests, intravenous catheterization (peripheral and central), local and topical anesthesia, management of problems in multiorgan resuscitation including cardiac & respiratory, management of problems in pain relief, management of procedures for rendering patient insensible to pain & emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical & certain medical procedures, nerve blocks with and without ultrasound guided assistance, support of life functions under the stress of anesthetic & surgical manipulations, pulmonary artery catheterization, temporary pacemaker placement, ultrasound-guided catheter placement, and insertion of trans-esophageal echocardiography probe.
Anesthesia Critical Care Core Privileges include: admitting, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the following body systems: cardiovascular, circulatory, dermatologic, endocrine, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, hematological, immune, infectious, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological, psychiatric, pulmonary, renal, rheumatologic, arthrocentesis, bronchoscopy, cleaning & dressing wounds, critical care medicine, incision & draining of superficial abscess, lumbar puncture, and cricothyrotomy (emergent).

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
