This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville NC Coastal Health Care System (FNCVACHCS), and Chief of Staff, Medicine Service. The successful candidate will serve a Gastroenterologist. He/she is to ensure the quality and timeliness of the services provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with the standards of accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General's Combined Assessment Program. He/she is to ensure appropriate use of the available resources and will be responsible for the state-of-the-art standards of care. He/she collaborates with other services as appropriate.
Administrative Duties:
- Serves as Supervisory Chief of the section as needed.
- Participates in an on-call schedule as the facility requires even when not on duty.
- When on duty and on call, responds to all pages or patient care notifications within 30 minutes as per VHA directives when on duty as well as local facility policy.
- If off duty and on-call for the facility, reports in person within 60 minutes of notification to address any patient care issues or to provide coverage.
- Provides guidance and support to the Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs - NPs or PAs) assigned to Medicine Service in their respective areas of expertise.
- Provides guidance and supervision for the medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service/subspecialty services and clinics according to the standards outlined in Medical Center Memorandum, 11-4, "Supervision of Postgraduate Residents," when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service.
- Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, as well as self directed learning activities, completes facility wide mandatory education yearly.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine as it may relate to scope of practice and/or privileges
Clinical Duties:
- Provides quality patient care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults age 18-65 and older adults age 65+ as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service.
- Maintains clinical privileges and board certification in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medicine Services.
- Demonstrate sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
- Facilitate the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.
- Serves as staff attending for sub-specialty consult service as assigned.
- Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving the treatment plan and discharge plans of patients admitted to the Medicine bed services.
- Staff Physicians will be mapped 95% Clinical; 5% Administrative time in order to complete necessary and required clinical vs administrative duties accordingly.
- Special assignments/duties related to specific job requirements assigned within the providers privileges and/or scope of practice based on the needs of the service and VA Facility.
The incumbent works without direct supervision, but is administratively and clinically responsible to the Chief, Medicine Service.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
