The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) Perioperative Service is responsible for the executive leadership, direction, and oversight of all clinical and administrative activities within the Perioperative Service to ensure safe, timely, high-quality surgical and procedural care for Veterans. The ACOS, Perioperative Service is responsible for the executive leadership, direction, and oversight of all clinical and administrative activities within the Perioperative Service to ensure safe, timely, high-quality surgical and procedural care for Veterans. The position aligns perioperative operations with the VHA mission and facility strategic goals, and ensures compliance with VHA policy, facility bylaws, The Joint Commission standards, and all applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
Major Duties/Responsibilities to include but are not limited to:
- Provides leadership for the planning, organization, and management of all perioperative activities, including Pre-operative Evaluation, Day-of-Surgery Admissions, Operating Rooms, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and related procedural areas as assigned.
- Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, and clinical pathways that govern perioperative care in alignment with VHA directives and facility bylaws.
- Collaborates closely with Chiefs of Surgery, Anesthesiology (if separate), Nursing leadership, Sterile Processing, Pharmacy, Radiology, Laboratory, and other services to ensure integrated, veteran-centered perioperative care.
- Recruits, selects, and retains qualified perioperative clinicians and staff in coordination with service and facility leadership.
- Manages perioperative resources, including OR time, personnel, equipment, and supplies, in collaboration with Nursing, Logistics, and facility leadership.
- Exercises authority over clinical and administrative operations of the Perioperative Service within the framework of VHA policy, facility bylaws, and delegated authority from the Chief of Staff
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm; with call coverage.
