Duties

Works under the general supervision of the Pathology Support Services Supervisor who provides initial guidance on area of responsibility and priorities. | Independently performs a wide variety of specimen collection, processing and shipping in accordance with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), manufacturer's instructions and technical references. | Receives and processes specimens from all areas within Madigan Army Medical Center, Decentralized Labs, other DoD Laboratories and contracted civilian health care providers.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory testing in Chemistry, Serology, Hematology, Urinalysis; or Microbiology to include 1) collecting specimens using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques; 2) servicing laboratory automation and processing instrumentation; and 3) analyzing patient test results and initiating appropriate clinical actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or a related field.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. | This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time. | This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. | This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccinations. | Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. | This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion. | One year trial/probationary period may be required. | This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. | This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter. | This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. | This position may require Tuberculosis testing. | This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. | This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. | This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
