Health Technician (Surgical)

About the Position: This position serves as a Health Technician (Surgical) at Womack Army Medical Center, Directorate of Surgery, Department of Surgery. The primary functions is performing scrub and circulating duties across a range of specialties and complexities, providing critical support in routine to trauma cases.

Transport patients from hospital units to the operating room. | Screen patients for completeness of preoperative documentation. | Position the patient for the specific surgical procedure. | Assembling surgical instruments and equipment based on the procedure and the surgeon’s preference. | Monitor safe handling and disposal of sharp and biohazardous materials. | Provide surgical instruments such as sponges, sutures, and solutions as requested by surgical staff.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with retrieving and positioning patients for surgical procedures; assembling sterile instruments and equipment based on the surgical procedure; providing supplies during procedures as requested by surgical team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
