The staff physician practices in the outpatient clinic setting at the expert level, The staff physician is academically and clinically prepared to be responsible for managing the full spectrum of primary care. Primary care at ECHCS includes, but is not limited to, assessment, diagnosis treatment, and monitoring outcome measures of healthcare problems of patients presenting with internal medicine concerns. A nonexclusive list includes the following:
- Performing histories and physicals.
- Initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens.
- Ordering medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy and the VA formulary.
- Providing appropriate follow up care.
- Triage of patients with non-medicine complaints, diseases, and injuries to appropriate disciplines for diagnosis and treatment.
- Comfort with chronic disease management and geriatric patients.
- Comfort in providing pain management.
- Comfort with addiction treatment.
- Comfort in delivering mental health treatment to our Veteran population.
- Comfort in providing women's health care.
- Communicate with and utilizes other disciplines (e.g., nursing, surgery) to facilitate treatment planning and implementation.
- Collaborate with divergent multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
Other duties:
- Participating in team performance improvement and sustainment activities to optimize team efficiency and care delivery to patients.
- Providing health education and health coaching on wellness, disease prevention, chronic care management, and self-management skills to patients and personal support persons, commensurate with the documented expertise or professional training of the PACT member.
- Reviewing available clinical and performance data with the team, focusing on continuous improvement of critical team processes.
- Ensuring the patient has same-day access for face-to-face and telephone care visits during regular clinic hours.

- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
