Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- The Staff Endocrinologist provides comprehensive subspecialty care for Veterans with acute and chronic endocrine and metabolic disorders across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Performs endocrinology consultations on medical, surgical, ICU, and specialty services; staffs outpatient general endocrinology, diabetes, and specialty endocrine clinics; and performs endocrine-related procedures and dynamic testing (e.g., stimulation/suppression testing, continuous glucose monitoring interpretation, insulin pump management) in accordance with facility policies and national standards.
- Evaluates and manages conditions such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, adrenal and pituitary disorders, parathyroid and calcium/bone metabolism disorders, dyslipidemia, hypogonadism and other reproductive endocrine conditions, and other complex hormonal and metabolic disorders.
- Educates patients and families about endocrine diseases, procedures, and treatment plans.
- Completes timely electronic medical record documentation, including consult notes, procedure reports, medication management plans, and communication of test results.
- Participates in transitions of patient care and discharge planning to ensure safe and effective follow-up.
- Provides teaching and supervision for trainees (e.g., fellows, residents, students) rotating on the endocrinology inpatient and outpatient services and in any procedure or testing areas.
