Summary
About the Position: Serves as Health Technician at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia who provides support to management by preparation of enteral nutrition for infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and pediatric wards and also assist in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of medical nutrition therapy for all patients.

Duties
Serves as a member of the medical team with primary responsibility for enteral nutrition preparation for all designated pediatric, and NICU patients. | Attends inpatient medical rounds, and actively presents nutrition concerns to doctors, nurses, and other allied health care providers. | Provides clinical nutrition education to family members and other staff as needed on infant formulas, fortifications and feeding practices | Completes breast milk analysis with individual adjustments in feeding/formulation for each infant. | Provides guidance regarding issues such as policies, procedures, and current practices in enteral nutrition preparation and products, as well as inpatient neonatal and pediatric feeding practices and procedures. | Responsible for patients with certain nutritionally related diseases or wound healing problems. | Counsels and screens patients to identify nutrition problems, drug-nutrient interactions and provides patient instruction, education and counseling. | Conducts weekly nutrition education classes to patients and family members.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Provides nutrition counseling/education; Prepares infant feedings needs (ie, formula, May come in contact with bodily fluids - breast milk / donor's milk); Performs nutrition screenings for inpatients throughout the treatment period; Records information into automated system(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
