Summary

About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Pathology in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.

Duties

Receive sample packages sent by remote laboratories. | Unpack samples, reviews documentation for completeness and technical accuracy, and processes samples as described above. | Pack samples for pickup by courier or for mailing to areference laboratory. Exercises care in handling, processing and shipping samples. | Enter all shipped samples into the shipped sample database, performs system backups, and generates reports as requested by supervisor or laboratory manager. | Receive requests for supplies from others in the laboratory. | Maintains all documentation as required by Department of Health Agency (DHA) and local regulations. Submits and coordinates orders with Logistics. | Process a wide variety of laboratory specimens for in-house analysis and/or shipment to civilian or military reference laboratories.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education Or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service which includes 1) assisting with processing a wide variety of laboratory specimens: 2.) assisting with receiving, processing, and/or shipping samples;3) Prepare proper paperwork and verifies catalog and pricing information,: 4.) Unpack samples, reviews documentation for completeness and technical accuracy, and processes.This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Pathology or related field of study.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. | This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued,required level of physical health / ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. | This position has been designated as "Mission Essential" | Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. | This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. | Incumbent will be required to become a certified Shipper through completion of the Transport of Bio-hazardous Shipping Class with 90 days of Entrance of Duty Date | This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. | This position requires shift work to provide coverage. The Shipping section in Core Laboratory operates Monday thru Friday. Employees are expected to be available for their 8 hour shifts i.e., 0730-1600, 0745-1615, 0800-1630, 0815-1645, 0830-1700. | This is a Term position scheduled to not exceed 4 year. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management | Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
