The incumbent is responsible for the daily clinical operations of the Emergency Department and reports to the Medicine Service Line. The incumbent will evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment. The incumbent will take part in continuing medical education and quality assurance activities. The highest degree of good judgment, ethical behavior and professional demeanor is required at all times in the incumbents contact with patients, peers and all other employees.Major duties include, but are not limited to:
- Reports out/in at each change of shifts with the other ED physician for a hand off of patient care. This "hand-off" must include a report of patient conditions, special instructions.
- Enters note on all patients that are seen by the ED physician. Hospital policies regarding documentation must be followed.
- May need to respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies on the LVAMC campus.
- Must be available for "backup" as identified on the published schedule.
- Sustains collaborative working relationships with other staff, assist in resolving conflicts, and contribute to the accomplishment of VISN and Medical Center strategic goals and performance measures.
- Works effectively within a team environment contributing to the effectiveness of the team to deliver safe, cost effective, quality, timely, and patient-focused care.
- Actively demonstrates the ability to understand the complexity of an integrated medical care delivery system and how change affects the system as a whole.
- Demonstrates ability to manage multiple task/priorities, and productively contributes to the health care delivery team.
- Demonstrates the ability to think and act innovatively looking beyond day to day operations.
- Demonstrates the ability to work at all levels of the organization to achieve organizational goals such as reducing length of stay, improving care coordination, reduce number of ambulance deflections and improving patient care outcomes.

- All Medical Staff are expected to comply with CPRS Computer Security and Privacy Act Statements.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
