Summary

This position is located at the Chinle Service Unit, Division of Quality Management, Employee Health Department, Chinle, AZ. Provides employee health and safety services, including emergency care, hazard prevention, health screenings, immunization compliance, fit testing, exposure reporting, and blood borne pathogen follow-up. The incumbent reports to the Infection Control Nurse Supervisor.

A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

  • Administers and oversees employee health programs, including immunization tracking, tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccination compliance, and infectious disease exposure follow-up for staff, contractors, students, and volunteers.
  • Manages the Blood Borne Pathogen Program by coordinating exposure response activities, maintaining compliance documentation, counseling employees, and supporting infection prevention practices.
  • Assists with the Respiratory Protection Program by conducting fit testing, medical clearances, employee training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and NIOSH requirements.
  • Monitors employee safety incidents, workplace injuries, and occupational exposures while coordinating reporting, workers' compensation follow-up, and corrective actions with HR and Safety staff.
  • Maintains employee health records and reporting systems, prepares compliance and immunization reports, updates policies and procedures, and provides employee health education across the Service Unit.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education - A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure- For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates professional nursing experience in occupational health, employee health, or clinical nursing programs.

Specialized experience includes administering employee immunization and screening programs; monitoring tuberculosis and infectious disease exposure follow-up; coordinating blood borne pathogen and respiratory protection activities; maintaining employee health records and compliance documentation; counseling employees on occupational health and safety issues; monitoring workplace injuries and exposures; and collaborating with clinical, safety, infection control, and human resources staff to ensure compliance with employee health and regulatory requirements.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Background Investigation Requirement:
This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
