Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks Pathologists support a high-volume Anatomic and Clinical Pathology operations, including interpretation of more than 3,500 surgical specimens, over 800 Pap tests, more than 400 non-gynecologic cytology cases, approximately 40 bone marrows, and a limited number of Frozen sections annually. The clinical laboratory processes approximately 1.7 million tests per year. Laboratory services extend to four CAP-accredited Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) laboratories, two CBOC draw stations and an additional contracted clinic site.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Some of the duties and responsibilities are:
-Provide final diagnostic interpretation for all specimens processed within the laboratory.
-Perform gross examination of surgical specimens.
-Conduct and interpret intraoperative frozen sections.
-Provide intraoperative and intra-procedural consultation to clinical teams.
Interpret and sign out surgical pathology cases using CAP-compliant turnaround and reporting standards.
-Interpret gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens.
-Provide immediate adequacy assessments for CT-guided or image-guided procedures.
-Order and interpret immunohistochemical and special stains.
-Interpret peripheral blood smears submitted for pathologist review.
-Review and interpret hematology/body fluids as required.
-Serve as a consultant to clinicians regarding laboratory testing, interpretation, and diagnostic strategies.
-Participate in multi-disciplinary conferences and committees.
-Participate in required Quality Assurance programs.
Work Schedule: To be discussed during the interview process; 24 hour on-call service rotation
