Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

The Birmingham Department of Veterans Affairs, a major teaching affiliate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is seeking a full-time Hematologist/Oncologist to join our growing team. This position offers a meaningful blend of clinical care, teaching, and the opportunity to shape the future of oncology services for Veterans in Alabama.
Position Highlights
- Serve as a core faculty member for the UAB Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, with active involvement in teaching and supervising fellows.
- Provide high quality patient care, including:
- Oversight of the infusion center during clinical sessions
- Participation in the inpatient consult service alongside fellows
- Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration through the Cancer Committee and tumor boards.
- Contribute to institutional initiatives such as quality improvement projects and committee service.
- Participate in an equitable on call consultation, with after hours and weekend rounding being very uncommon.
- Must be board certified/eligible in oncology and/or hematology
Research & Program Development
The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to help build a new clinical trials program within the Birmingham VA.
- The oncology section currently has no active clinical trials-establishing this program is a major strategic priority.
- Extensive support is available through our VA Research Service, offering a strong foundation for candidates who wish to pursue clinical research or program development.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subject to change based on agency needs.
