Duties
Supervises Health Information Management (HIM) personnel and provides communication and guidance to administrative, medical, and professional staff. | Advises on all phases of health information management, including health record management, coding, auditing, release of information, record analysis, documentation integrity, reporting, and regulatory compliance. | Oversees maintenance, accuracy, correction, analysis, and completion of the electronic health record to ensure compliance with regulatory guidance, accreditation standards, and documentation requirements. | Ensures periodic audits of medical records for documentation accuracy, coding quality, deficiencies, and compliance with applicable standards. | Oversees the release of information process, retirement and accountability of medical records, and scanning of outside documentation into MHS GENESIS. | Ensures timely completion of inpatient and outpatient encounters in accordance with The Joint Commission standards and DHA guidance. | Tracks workload, productivity, and performance metrics across all HIM functions. | Prepares reports, briefings, slides, spreadsheets, and statistical analyses for division and MTF senior leadership. | Provides executive-level updates on HIM Branch status, risks, trends, and performance. | Manages ATAAPS and DMRSHI functions. | Maintains broad knowledge of all aspects of health information management operations and documentation standards.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the development of medical records programs; reviewing medical records for accuracy and/or completeness; and assigning or coordinating workload for staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
