Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare (CM).

As a Pharmacist, GS-0660-13, you will provide clinical pharmacy expertise and guidance in support of one or more CMS program policy or support teams responsible for interpreting, developing, monitoring, or evaluating applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding CMS-administered programs, including the Medicare Fee-For-Service Program.

Duties

Provide technical expertise as a professional pharmacist to group/division staff as well as CM leadership on the administration of the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation and Prescription Drug Benefit Programs. | Serve as a clinical lead, performing research and analysis and generating recommendations on the development, implementation, and oversight of the Medicare Negotiation and Prescription Drug Benefit Programs. | Establish and implement operational processes in support of negotiation or manufacturer agreement processes. | Conduct pharmacoeconomic analyses and assessments of drugs. | Inform drug policy analysis with advice on cost and coverage issues; reviews clinical research studies and economic analyses of topics of interest to drug policymakers, using the results of research to inform recommendations and decisions.

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
- Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects;
- Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations;
- Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program;
- Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries;
AND/OR
- Maintaining all medication records required by law.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current or former Federal employees and current or former Federal employees applying under the VEOA eligibility who hold or have held a permanent General Schedule position in the previous year must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.

Education

Medical Requirements:
  • You must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, you must have the following educational requirements:
  • A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

License/Registration Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, you must possess the license/registration listed below.   • Licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
