As a Epidemiologist, GS-0601-13, you will plan and conduct studies and projects to examine health care and health delivery phenomena of interest to CMS policy makers.
Duties
Conduct independent epidemiological studies to evaluate Medicare beneficiary care and services. | Analyze CMS data to examine health care delivery phenomena that inform policy decisions. | Design and evaluate complex studies to improve health care services for CMS beneficiaries. | Review study protocols and serve on advisory committees providing epidemiological expertise.

In order to qualify for the GS-13, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
1) Reviewing and assessing the research designs, methods, and statistical approaches used in clinical studies. 2) Writing and presenting technical reports and policy recommendations based on epidemiological findings for leadership AND 3) Using statistical software and data to conduct epidemiological studies, statistical analyses, or health services research that assesses health care programs and outcomes.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current or former Federal employees and current or former Federal employees applying under the VEOA eligibility who hold or have held a permanent General Schedule position in the previous year must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
Education
Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION).
