Summary

The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) will provide direct oversight of clinical services, ensure access to Veterans for clinical care/services, ensure productivity of clinical staff, create, sign and administer the medical by laws and clinical policy for Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS) and make clinical decisions on behalf of the RVHACS.

Roseburg, centrally located in the of Douglas County, Oregon is known for its 359 miles of streams along the north and south forks of the Umpqua River. The Deputy Chief of Staff will serve as Acting Chief of Staff in the absence of the Chief of Staff and participate in recruitment interviews for key staff members.

Duties include but not limited to:
  • Demonstrates clinical experience across 2-3 Clinical specialties.
  • At least 5 years to include at least 3 years of clinical leadership.
  • Experience using data analysis for solutions at a department level.
  • Active in council or committee work.
  • Large healthcare system clinical performance improvement and metrics improvement (multiple types of practice).
  • Experience with 3 or electronic health records may include Oracle Cerner, experience overseeing the training of clinical staff on a EHR's use.
  • Healthcare level experience with budget development and monitoring.
  • Expand collaborations with the community hospitals and medical schools in order to increase and/or enhance our services at RVACHS.
  • Monitor Patient Safety and Risk Management issues and ensuring that the issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Responsible to lead and participate as an active member of various task groups and committees that address clinical issues at the local, VISN, and national VHA level.

Additional Requirement: EHR and/or Oracle Health system preferred, Veteran Health Administration preferred, or experience across multiple practice settings preferred.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements
  • Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Requirements
