Duties

Direct and manage all health record processing, ensuring records are complete, accurate, secure, and accessible in compliance with policy and accreditation standards. | Lead the Health Record Management Section, providing supervision, training, performance management, staffing oversight, and workforce planning for personnel handling inpatient, outpatient, STR, and PRT functions. | Oversee provider documentation completion, deficiency management, and query processes to ensure regulatory, accreditation, and DHA compliance. | Ensure accurate tracking, inventory, retirement, and disposition of medical records—including STRs and PRT—while coordinating with clinical and administrative teams to maintain full documentation accountability. | Create policies, SOPs, training plans, and corrective actions; prepares statistical and compliance reports; and drives continuous improvement in record management accuracy, timeliness, and data integrity.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes overseeing medical record documentation, managing record maintenance, and supervising or guiding health records staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: such as Medical Records Administration, Health Information Management. (You must provide your Transcript).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must provide your Transcript).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered Health Information Administrator RHIA
Registered Health Information Technician RHIT
Experience in Joint Commission surveys, regulatory compliance programs, health record audits, and deficiency management processes
Experience in a large healthcare system, military treatment facility, academic medical center, or Level I Trauma Center

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. | A Personnel Security Investigation is required. | One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement. | Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. | Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. | This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
