Podiatrist

The position is located at the Turtle Mountain Service Unit at Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, in Belcourt, ND. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the recognized authority in podiatric medicine, providing expert-level, comprehensive podiatric medical and surgical services.

A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

• Provides expert podiatric surgical and medical care including prevention, health maintenance, early diagnosis, complex surgical and follow up services.
• Serves as consultant to other healthcare professionals in all matters pertaining to podiatric patient care.
• Interviews, examines patients, reviews past medical history and request and/performs diagnostic test and examinations as necessary.
• Maintains clinical and administrative records as required. Admits patients to the hospital, consults with medical staff after admission and discharges for patient care referrals.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include:

• Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems;
• Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs;
• Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or
• Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Additional Requirements for the GS-14 and above Grade Levels: In addition to the Basic Requirements for the GS-13 (or equivalent) level, applicants must complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Perform surgical repair of bone fractures, soft tissue injuries, congenital and structural deformities, and infections involving the foot, ankle and leg. Review past medical history, request or perform diagnostic test and examinations as necessary to obtain information relevant to each case. Diagnose, directs, prescribes or provides treatment, arranges for specialized care or hospitalization.

SELECTIVE FACTOR:

• Must have completed 1 to 3 years of residency training and have perform surgical procedures involving forefoot, midfoot, rearfoot, lower leg including amputations within the last 18 months. (If yes, submit a copy of surgical logs of cases performed within the last 24 months).

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Background Investigation Requirement:

This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
